Frequently Asked Questions

How does online coaching work?

Online coaching starts with an initial consultation via telephone or video call, where we'll discuss your running experience, goals, current training and what you want to achieve.

I'll then create a personalised training plan around your goals, ability and lifestyle. Your plan will be uploaded to TrainingPeaks, where you can view your upcoming sessions and track your training.

We'll have a weekly 15-minute catch-up to review how your training is going, discuss how you're feeling and make any changes needed to keep your training on track.

You'll also have WhatsApp support between catch-ups, so you can ask questions, discuss sessions or let me know if something changes that could affect your training.

It's more than simply receiving a training plan, you'll have regular contact, ongoing support and a plan that can adapt as you progress.

Do I need a Garmin/Apple Watch?

No. A Garmin, Apple Watch or other fitness tracker isn't essential for coaching. However, having one can make following your training and monitoring your progress easier.

You'll need a free Strava account, which you can keep private and invite me to follow. This allows me to monitor your training and use your session data to help keep your plan appropriate and up to date.

If you have a compatible Garmin or Apple Watch, it can also sync with TrainingPeaks, allowing your planned sessions to be sent directly to your watch.

You don't need expensive equipment to get started — the coaching is built around the technology you already have available.

Do I need to be an experienced runner?

Absolutely not!

I’m passionate about helping anyone who wants to run. I’ve coached people who have never run before, as well as more experienced runners looking to achieve their next goal.

Whether you’re on day 1, day 51 or day 1001, I can help you build your running, improve your confidence and work towards your goals.

I believe that anyone who wants to run is a runner.

Can you coach me if I don't live locally?

Absolutely!

You don’t need to live locally to work with me. Your training plan is delivered through TrainingPeaks, so you can access it wherever you are, whenever you need it.

Consultations and regular catch-ups can be done by phone, WhatsApp or video call, whatever works best for you.

Great coaching shouldn’t depend on where you live.

How are my training plans delivered?

Your training plan is delivered digitally, so you can access it wherever you are and fit your training around your life.

For monthly coaching, your plan is delivered through TrainingPeaks, where you can view your sessions, record your training and share your progress with me. I can then use your feedback and training data to adjust your plan as you progress towards your goals.

For individual training plans, you’ll receive a clear week-by-week plan with everything you need to complete each session, including distances, paces or effort levels and guidance where needed.

Whether you choose an individual plan or ongoing coaching, you’ll have a clear plan to follow and the support you need to make the most of your training.

Can my plan change if work/life gets in the way?

Absolutely. Life happens, and your training plan should work around your life — not the other way around.

During your initial consultation, we’ll talk about your work, family and other commitments so I can build a plan that realistically fits your lifestyle.

One of the most important questions I’ll ask is “How many sessions can you honestly complete each week?” — not how many you’d like to do, or how many would be optimal. If life changes or your circumstances mean we need to adjust your training or goals, we can do that too.

With monthly coaching, your plan can be changed week to week as your circumstances change.

With an individual plan, you receive one complimentary change during your plan.

The aim is always to create a plan that works for you, your life and your goals — rather than expecting your life to fit around your training.

How do I get started?

Simply get in touch through the website, email or social media and let me know a little about your running and what you’d like to achieve.

We’ll arrange an initial consultation where we’ll talk about your goals, current running, experience, availability and anything else that might affect your training.

From there, I’ll recommend the coaching option that best suits you and we can get started.

No complicated sign-up process, just a conversation about your running and where you want to go.
